Shawn [sh-on] Dananjaya [Dah-nan-ja-yah] Weerawardana [Vee-rah-var-dha-na]
Being a brown kid of immigrant parents, I was destined to become the world’s next doctor/lawyer/engineer. For the longest time I played along, unknowingly funneling creativity into my over-the-top and design-heavy science project tri-fold boards.
why i do what i do
I continued to play along with my pre-decided life-path for a long time. Until…sophomore year of high school rolled around and I became the editor and chief of the school newspaper (not as lame as you might think).
It allowed me to think outside of what I was conditioned to be and gave me clarity to what I was supposed to be doing.
When college came around and the question of what I wanted to do with my life became real, I went towards…a marketing and management degree!
Everything I know how to do creatively, on a professional level, I have learned on my own. Youtube has been my best friend in that regard. But I knew that alongside knowing and having the skills to tell stories creatively, I found it important to know how to apply that in the real world.
I can proudly say what I have done in terms of business development, management, and marketing, has been indispensable in forwarding my career, and find it one of my most useful knowledge bases when it comes to my storytelling.
Fast forward 12’ish years from that kid who was managing and creating a newpaper, I am the person I am today. Someone who dreams of telling stories and living a creative life, for the rest of my life.
About Me
my creative belief
There are two things I believe are important when creating something, whether it be video, photo, graphic design, etc. etc.…
belief #1
I don’t believe in perfection, but I do believe in the pursuit of it. What I mean by that is; details, one’s process, the quality of execution, and the idea that how you showcase your story is your legacy, matter. Best believe I put that philosophy into what I create and what people pay me to do.
belief #2
Simply put, everyone has a story to tell, and that story should be told. Like I said in belief #1, your story is your legacy. If somehow I can help tell yours in a creative and beautiful way I feel like I have done what I am supposed to do while I’m here.
